Love in action in the daily life of the Teacher
- With a little help from St Paul
If I do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal ( 1 Corinthians 13:1 ) Love is patient
Love knows that students think, speak, and learn at different rates and makes allowances for such differences. Love accepts that failure, and failure again, are but steps in the learning and development process. Love is kind Love hears with the eyes and the heart, as well as with the ears, meeting students at the human level with understanding and compassion. Love is mindful of students who may be at the margins and reaches out in kindness. Love does not dishonour others Love avoids but challenges attitudes and practices which put-down or ridicule students. Love outlaws all forms of discrimination and bullying, encouraging respect and right relationships. Love always protects Love makes a priority of the wellbeing of all students, promoting safety and protective practices at all possible levels. Love never turns a blind eye in the face of any perceived threat to student wellbeing. Love always hopes Love sees, and names, possibilities where others see problems. Love seeks to transmit a ‘can-do’ mindset to students encouraging them to be their better selves and to look on the bright side of life. With the passing of time, present-day technology will become obsolete, new educational policies will emerge, new learning theories will evolve. But these three remain: faith, hope and love And, the greatest of these is love. AMEN (1 Corinthians 13 ) Option Hymns for Reflection
